Carbon fibre leader DowAksa joined LIST’s Sustainable Composite Materials & Manufacturing Innovation Centre (SCMM) to push the boundaries of sustainability in advanced materials. Together, they will develop bio-based alternatives to petroleum-derived resins and give new life to production waste by repurposing it for transport applications. This long-term collaboration aims to cut emissions and reshape the carbon fibre lifecycle — proving that composite innovation and circularity can go hand in hand.

Iveco Group has teamed up with LIST’s Sustainable Composite Materials & Manufacturing Innovation Centre (SCMM) to accelerate the development of lightweight, sustainable composite materials for future vehicles. This four-year partnership will focus on reducing emissions and enhancing fuel efficiency across Iveco’s brands, starting with IVECO BUS. By integrating advanced composites, the collaboration aims to lower vehicle weight, improve performance and extend service life, paving the way for greener, more costeffective transport solutions.

LIST partnered with Luxembourg venture capital firm Ilavska Vuillermoz Capital to fast-track the development and deployment of decarbonization technologies. By combining deep scientific expertise with sharp investment insight, the collaboration aims to bridge the gap between lab and market — boosting spin-offs, startups and joint ventures. With LIST providing tech evaluations and access to top-tier labs and IVC offering funding know-how and venture support, the collaboration is set to accelerate impactful solutions to the climate crisis.

Kordsa, a global leader in reinforcement and advanced material technologies, has partnered with LIST’s Sustainable Composite Materials & Manufacturing Innovation Centre (SCMM).

This collaboration focuses to develop innovative, sustainable semifinished products for composite applications in the automotive and aerospace sectors. Kordsa’s expertise in materials will help create lightweight, high-performance solutions, addressing the growing demand for eco-friendly technologies. The partnership, set to last until 2026, aims to push the boundaries of sustainable composites for the future.

Florian Kaiser secured a €3M ERC Consolidator Grant for his Q-Chip project, aiming to integrate quantum processors and memories into a single chip. This builds on his FNR PEARL-supported Aquatsic project, leveraging silicon carbide — widely used in electric vehicles — to develop next-gen quantum platforms. His work targets scalable, efficient quantum systems with real-world applications.

Researchers from LIST contributed to a study on a new approach for creating synthetic materials with enhanced information storage potential. By twisting single-crystal oxide layers at precise angles, the team created novel moiré patterns that manipulate atomic scale dipoles in ferroelectrics. This could enable memory storage densities exceeding 100 terabits per square inch, far surpassing the current limits. The breakthrough, part of the ‘twistronics’ field, offers new avenues for energy-efficient, high-capacity data storage.

LIST hosted the 15th IEEE International Symposium on Power Electronics for Distributed Generation Systems (PEDG 2024), bringing together over 200 global experts. The symposium focused on innovations in energy storage, distributed generation and sustainable power systems, highlighting the role of power electronics in achieving carbon neutrality. As such, LIST’s Power Lab is key in validating these technologies through real-world
testing, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of complex energy systems. This work supports ongoing Horizon Europe projects and offers critical solutions for future energy challenges.

LIST and the Institut Luxembourgeois de Régulation (ILR) launched the WeShareEnergy website to promote electricity sharing, a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for renewable energy consumption. The platform offers information on collective self consumption and energy communities, providing tools like the WeShareEnergy software for simulating electricity distribution. This collaboration strengthens our common commitment to advancing sustainable energy practices and fostering innovation in the energy transition.

LIST and Intel Corporation partnered on the SWITCHON project, focused on advancing ultra-low-power electronics. Co-funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund, the project aims to reduce power consumption by 90% through the study of ferroelectric materials. By optimizing voltage control in these materials, SWITCHON seeks to enhance AI and electronic device efficiency.
